MASPALOMAS24H Friday, March 13, 2026

The arrested man had a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence pending, handed down by a final judgment.

The events that led to the conviction date back to 2002 and involved a well-known businessman in the food sector.

The fugitive was subject to a court order for search, arrest and imprisonment, active for years, issued by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas.

Agents of the National Police from the Local Police Station of Maspalomas, arrested on March 9, a 51-year-old man, of Lithuanian nationality, against whom there was a Judicial Order of Search, Detention and Imprisonment issued by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas for a crime of injuries in execution of sentence.

The arrested man had a pending final sentence of three and a half years in prison, as well as the corresponding civil liability derived from the judicial proceedings.

The events that led to the court ruling date back to 2002, when the now detained man allegedly participated in a kidnapping and robbery with violence committed against a well-known businessman in the food sector in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, in which he stole the amount of half a million euros.

After a long legal process, in 2021 a final sentence was handed down condemning him to a prison term of three and a half years, the corresponding compensation to the victims and the return of all the stolen money.

However, the convicted man did not voluntarily enter prison nor could he be located to serve his sentence, so the competent judicial body issued a search and capture warrant.

Police efforts to locate him remained active from then until, finally, the National Police officers in charge of the investigation managed to locate and arrest him in the vicinity of the apartment complex where he lived, in the Campo Internacional area, in Maspalomas.

Once the police investigation was completed, the wanted man was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which ordered his imprisonment to serve his outstanding sentence.
