The Department of Festivals and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council announces the postponement and rescheduling of several events of the 2026 Maspalomas International Carnival due to the alert for winds, rain and coastal phenomena, declared by the Government of the Canary Islands due to Storm "Therese", in coordination with the guidelines and recommendations established in the PEIN of the Gran Canaria Island Council and the PEMU of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Following the recommendations of the security and emergency services, and prioritizing at all times the safety of participants, attendees and organization, the City Council has decided to postpone the following events scheduled in the program:
Canine Carnival Gala, which was scheduled to take place today, Wednesday the 18th, at 17:00 p.m.
Gala Drag, which was scheduled for Thursday the 19th. Despite the change of dates, tickets purchased will remain valid on the day it takes place.
Rescue of the Sardine, Tourist Gala, Carnival in the Sun, and the crowd; whose celebration was planned for Friday the 20th.
Councilwoman Yilenia Vega highlights that the artist is "one of the great pop divas, perfect for a night that represents strength and freedom."
MASPALOMAS INTERNATIONAL CARNIVAL PROGRAM 2026
The 2026 Maspalomas International Carnival, celebrated this year under the theme of "The World of the Circus," has revealed one of its best-kept secrets: a headline performance by Mónica Naranjo. The "Panther of Figueres" will provide the musical grand finale to the Drag Queen Gala, one of the most transgressive and anticipated events on the carnival calendar, which will take place on the iconic stage of the Yumbo Shopping Center this Thursday, March 19.
The Councillor for Tourism, Festivals and Events, Yilenia Vega, expressed her enthusiasm for this top-tier confirmation. "Mónica Naranjo is one of the great divas of Pop and is a perfect fit for the Drag Gala because she embodies the strength, boldness, drama, and freedom that so characterize us," Vega stated. "I am convinced that her voice will deeply move us, but above all, it will be a night to dance and fully enjoy our most international festival."
The artist's presence strengthens the municipality's international profile in an edition that aims to break attendance records. The carnival stage will be transformed to host a spectacle where Naranjo's powerful voice will blend with the platforms and acrobatics of the contestants.
