The Department of Security and Emergencies is urging caution and cooperation from residents. It warns of the rising water levels in the Soria-El Caidero ravine due to a break in the La Lumbre canal and the accumulation of water from recent rainfall.
The Department of Security and Emergencies of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council is informing all residents of Huesa Bermeja this afternoon of the risk involved in traveling on said road during this afternoon and evening and the high probability that they may become completely cut off due to the rains expected during this night and early morning.
The City Council has decided to issue this warning through Local Police and Firefighters on alert as a preventive measure due to the rising water levels in the Soria-Arguineguín basin in the El Caidero area. This flooding is caused by the rupture of the La Lumbre Canal and the waters from the numerous ravines and gullies on the slopes that line the Barranco, which have already caused flooding in several areas along the riverbed since early Friday morning. This prompted the precautionary closure of the GC-500 road from Las Crucitas to kilometer marker 13.
The Department of Security and Emergency Services, headed by Deputy Mayor José Carlo Álamo, is also informing the residents of Huesa Bermeja that the Town Hall has opened the El Tablero Sports Pavilion as a temporary shelter for those affected by the storm. So far, 22 people and three animals have been assisted at the shelter.
In the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the effects of Storm Therese resulted in minor landslides on some roads, such as the GC-60 near Fataga, the Puente de la Barca bridge in Tirajana, and the road connecting Taidía and Risco Blanco. These incidents were resolved by the Municipal Services and the Island Council's Roads Department. There were also some incidents involving collapsed walls, such as the one at El Águila Playa and on the Bahía Feliz promenade. These areas were quickly cordoned off by the Local Police and Fire Department for the safety of potential users.
