The Maspalomas Carnival postpones the Drag Gala to Thursday the 26th for security reasons

Maspalomas24h Tuesday, March 24, 2026

The Department of Festivities, Events and Tourism of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council informs of the postponement of the Drag Gala of the Maspalomas International Carnival 2026, scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, March 25, which will finally be held on Thursday the 26th.

This decision is being made for safety reasons, following the update to the regional emergency status declared by the Government of the Canary Islands due to Storm Therese, which addresses the risk of flooding, heavy rain, and coastal phenomena. It also takes into account the updated Island Emergency Plan (PEIN), which has raised the emergency level to Level 2 in Gran Canaria, as well as the guidelines and recommendations of the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

At this time, emergency services are fully activated and operating in different parts of the municipality, so it is a priority not to compromise resources needed to serve the public.

As a result of this postponement, the Canine Carnival scheduled for Thursday the 26th is cancelled.

Weather forecasts indicate improved conditions from Thursday onwards, which will allow the Drag Gala to be held with all guarantees.

Regarding the program for Friday the 27th, the Rescue of the Sardine is cancelled due to adverse coastal phenomena, while the celebration of the Tourist Gala is maintained, as planned on the Carnival stage.

The Grand Parade is still scheduled for Saturday, March 28th. However, it remains to be determined whether the floats will be allowed to remain parked on TTOO Tui Avenue after the parade or if, instead, they will have to be diverted directly to the GC-1.

Regarding the large gatherings, the one planned for Thursday the 26th is suspended, while those scheduled for Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th remain, always depending on the evolution of the situation and the safety recommendations of the competent authorities.

The Department of Festivities, Events and Tourism of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council thanks the public for their understanding and reiterates that all decisions made are based on a priority criterion of safety.
