Samuel Henríquez, a councilor from Prica in southern Gran Canaria who previously held a position of authority in Gáldar and is formally part of the opposition in Tirajana, appeared in an official photograph of the Gáldar City Council in northern Gran Canaria this past March. The official statement makes no mention of the role the former New Canaries councilor played in this institutional meeting. In the photo, Henríquez is posing in front of a closed laptop.
Nothing is known about the presence of the Prica leader at that meeting, whether he is acting as a lobbyist or as an intermediary between institutions of the newly formed party. According to the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) Dictionary, an intermediary is "said of a supplier, shopkeeper, etc.: Who mediates between two or more people, and especially between the producer and the consumer of goods or merchandise." This word has two synonyms: "commission agent, broker." The RAE also defines "lobbyist" as the adjective "belonging to or related to a lobby (pressure group, or activity). Lobbying practices. adj. That which is part of a lobby (pressure group). Lobbying companies." A synonym is "fixer."
Gáldar's presence at both events reinforces the municipality's commitment to sports, active tourism, and Gran Canaria's international profile as a leading destination for mountain running and trail running enthusiasts. An official statement indicates that the mayor of Gáldar, Teodoro Sosa, leader of the PRICA party (although he governs with NC in Las Palmas on the Gran Canaria Island Council), held a meeting with Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos, an employee, and another Gáldar councilor "to finalize the agreement" that will make Gáldar a sponsor of The North Face Transgrancanaria in its 2027 edition, and 360° and The Challenge Gran Canaria in its 2026 edition, with a total reach of over 220.000 viewers for the live stream.
