The prosecution has requested sentences totaling 45 years in prison for four inmates at the Las Palmas II Penitentiary Center, located in Juan Grande (San Bartolomé de Tirajana), accused of a gang rape of another prisoner. The events, which date back to the morning of August 6, 2021, occurred inside module 5 of the prison, when the defendants—ARP, ALEC, PdPRT, and PGP—allegedly intercepted the victim while she was in the bathroom. It is considered proven that one of them allegedly attempted to insert a roll of garbage bags into the victim's vagina.
According to the prosecutor's preliminary findings, which Maspalomas24H has obtained, the accused acted in concert to violate the sexual freedom of the victim, LLCS. While two of the inmates held the victim by the arms and the other two kept watch, one of them inserted a roll of garbage bags into her vagina. As a result of the attack, the woman suffered bruising on her forearms and thighs, as well as external swelling that required eight days to heal, although she did not sustain any permanent vaginal injuries.
The defendants' criminal records add complexity to the case, with prior convictions for homicide, armed robbery, fraud, and drug trafficking. Specifically, ALEC was serving a sentence of more than ten years for conspiracy to commit homicide, while PdPRT has multiple convictions for violent crimes handed down between 2020 and 2022. The prosecution has classified the acts as sexual assault and a minor assault charge, requesting 12-year prison sentences for three of them. For the fourth defendant, PGP, a sentence of less than nine years is being sought due to a mitigating circumstance of moderate cognitive impairment.
In addition to prison sentences, the Public Prosecutor's Office is seeking €20.303 in compensation for the victim for emotional distress and injuries. The indictment also includes restraining orders requiring the defendant to stay at least 500 meters away from the victim for periods of up to 15 years, as well as supervised release after the sentence is served. The case, initially handled by Court Number 2 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, will be heard by the Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas.
