The island team delivered an outstanding performance in one of the most demanding national competitions in the cadet category.

The president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales, and the Councilor for Sports, Aridany Romero, welcomed cyclists Néstor Herrera and Pablo Álvarez, members of the Gran Canaria Bike Team, after their great participation in the Aiarako Bira 2026, held in the Basque Country.

The representatives of the island team delivered an outstanding performance in one of the most demanding national competitions for the cadet category, featuring athletes aged 15 and 16. The yellow team, one of the island's leading cycling clubs, secured a podium finish thanks to the overall victory of Néstor Herrera from Teror, who defended the yellow jersey in the final stage held in Laudio.

For his part, Pablo Álvarez, a native of Agüimes, reached fifth position in the general classification and placed second among the first-year runners, consolidating the team's role in the event.

The competition, held in six stages - five road stages and one individual time trial - had a route of between 250 and 260 kilometers, marked by significant elevation changes and a total of 21 categorized climbs, which demanded the highest competitive level from the participants.

During the institutional meeting, Antonio Morales and Aridany Romero conveyed their satisfaction with the results obtained by the Gran Canaria Bike Team and its athletes - Eloy Marzá, Óscar Darias and Ayose Robaina also participated in the event - emphasizing that this success reflects "the magnificent training work that the club carries out with boys and girls", as well as "the commitment to promoting a sport as complete and demanding as cycling".
