A man in his forties was rescued from the water in critical condition off the coast of southern Gran Canaria and airlifted to the hospital. The rapid coordination of the emergency services proved crucial to his rescue.

A swimmer in his forties was evacuated in serious condition after showing signs of drowning at Puerto Rico Beach in Mogán on the afternoon of Friday, April 10, 2026, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 1-1-2). The incident occurred at 5:43 p.m., when an alert was received reporting that the man had been pulled from the water in critical condition.

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) immediately activated a large-scale medical response, including a medical helicopter, a fully equipped ambulance, and a basic life support ambulance. After assessing the severity of the patient's condition, the SUC medical coordinator decided on an urgent air evacuation to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria. The helicopter landed on the beach itself, where the medical team moved to the scene to stabilize the patient before the transfer.

The operation also involved personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, along with Mogán Civil Protection and the Local Police, who assisted in the rescue and secured the area to facilitate the helicopter's intervention. After initial stabilization, the injured person was urgently evacuated to the hospital, while police officers carried out the corresponding procedures.
