Alejandro Marichal: “These types of actions reinforce the municipal commitment to placing older people at the center of the social life of the municipality.”
Dimas Sarmiento: “The goal is to promote active aging, create meeting spaces, and offer leisure alternatives adapted to their needs.”
San Bartolomé de Tirajana will host the "Tardeo +60" event on April 19th, an initiative specifically aimed at the over-60 population. This event offers an adapted, participatory leisure activity designed for the enjoyment of this group. The activity will take place in Maspalomas South Park, from 16:00 PM to 21:00 PM, in a space designed to foster social interaction, community, and participation.
The project is funded by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate for the Elderly, and has the involvement of the Department for the Elderly of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, as well as the collaboration of the Maresía entity.
The program will include live music and a dynamic program throughout the day, with performances such as that of the artist Dani Calero and the band Los 600, as well as background music.
The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, stated that “with initiatives like the +60 Afternoon Event, we are creating spaces specifically designed for our senior citizens, tailored to their interests and offering activities that encourage participation and social interaction.” He added that “these kinds of actions reinforce the city's commitment to placing senior citizens at the heart of the municipality's social life.”
For his part, the Councillor for Senior Citizens, Dimas Sarmiento, emphasized that “this event was created with a clear objective: to offer our senior citizens a healthy, accessible leisure alternative designed specifically for them.” He further stressed that “this is not just a one-off activity, but rather a continuation of creating spaces where they can meet, share, and enjoy themselves.” In this regard, he added that “the participating administrations are launching an initiative aimed exclusively at people over 60, with the goal of promoting active aging, creating meeting spaces, and offering leisure alternatives tailored to their needs.”
Between 400 and 600 people are expected to participate, solidifying these types of initiatives as effective tools for revitalizing the social life of the older population in the municipality. "Afternoon +60" reinforces the commitment to public policies focused on older adults, positioning them as key players in the municipality's social and cultural activities.
