The council, chaired by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, approved two budget modifications to undertake a plan of necessary works on roads, sidewalks, housing, lighting, playgrounds, parking lots, the coastline, cemeteries, sports facilities, social services, and the cultural and tourist promotion of the municipality.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, will mobilize just over 60,9 million of its economic resources to improve the municipality's infrastructure and services. This includes substantial investments in new construction, repair and maintenance of public buildings and facilities, provision of supplies, infrastructure rehabilitation, land expropriation, housing construction, improvements to street lighting, renovation of children's playgrounds, operational maintenance of services, planning and execution of municipal festivals, and cultural and tourist promotion of the municipality, among other things.

The mayor explained that many of these projects will focus on repairing the extensive damage Storm Therese caused to public infrastructure, some of which are being addressed as emergencies and others as urgent matters. “These projects require significant financial resources from the City Council, in addition to any funding that may be provided by other government agencies, from whom we have already requested assistance,” he said.

With these objectives in mind, the full City Council, meeting in an extraordinary session this Thursday, unanimously approved two budget amendments totaling €60.916.815,6. These funds will be used to finance, from the Municipal Treasury's surplus, the various budget items in the 2026 General Budget that lack sufficient resources to carry out the planned actions undertaken by the government led by Marco Aurelio Pérez. The mayor noted that the City Council's Treasury surplus "easily exceeds €217 million."

Among the largest items in the first of these two budget amendments, amounting to €25.995.599,74, are the slightly more than €9,6 million required for the conservation, maintenance, improvement, and adaptation of the municipality's road, pedestrian, and road safety infrastructure, and the rehabilitation, refurbishment, and modernization of streets, sidewalks, walls, overpasses and underpasses, and signage. Planned projects in this regard include the rehabilitation of the overpass providing access to the San Agustín Shopping Center on Avenida de la Unión Europea and the underpass connecting Avenida Finnair with the Holiday World Maspalomas Shopping Center; the replacement of the collapsed wall next to the Atlantic Beach Apartments in Playa del Inglés; the rehabilitation of the coastline at Castillo del Romeral; the opening of the underground parking garage at T-5 (Mercadona) in El Tablero; and street repaving, a task in which more than €2,7 million will be invested. The rehabilitation of sidewalks with 2,3 million, and just over 4 million for the renovation and improvement of children's playgrounds, among others.

Furthermore, this first amendment also includes allocating €1,4 million to settle the tax on waste disposal at the Juan Grande Ecopark and another €648.906,54 to pay invoices for work certifications related to the renovation of the changing rooms and stands at the Juan Grande Football Field; slightly more than €1,2 million for the purchase of equipment for sports centers and facilities; €350.000 for catering services and furniture for the Municipal Infant Schools; and, among other items, €130.000 to modernize the virtualization of the City Hall's voice switchboard. A significant investment also linked to this modification, amounting to €1.490.000, will be made for the conservation, modernization, and improvement of the municipality's electrical and public lighting infrastructure. This includes the commissioning of the low-voltage network, electrification, and lighting in the rural areas of Huerta del Conde and Manzanilla; the renewal of the low-voltage network in Parque del Sur; the installation of electrical panels in public squares; the supply of mobile lighting projectors to address incidents and emergencies; Christmas lighting; and the replacement of the projectors that illuminate the beaches of San Agustín and Las Burras, among other projects.
