Foro Canarias begins a new chapter following its annual general assembly and gala dinner at the iconic Hotel Santa Catalina. In an event marked by institutional change, the think tank and debate platform unanimously elected Juan Miguel Sanjuán, president of the Satocan group, to lead the organization for the next term.
The election of Sanjuán brings to a close an era of almost three decades under the leadership of Santiago Ceballos, who received a heartfelt tribute after 28 years at the helm of the organization. During the evening, representatives of Canarian civil society and business, such as Ana Suárez, Joaquín Juliá, and Rafael Cabral, highlighted Ceballos's career, and he was presented with a commemorative sculpture in recognition of his dedication since the forum's founding.
The new Board of Directors accompanying Sanjuán reflects professional continuity with the addition of prominent figures: Alfredo Montes assumes the vice presidency, María Nieves Cabrera the secretaryship, and Joaquín Juliá the treasurership. The team of members is comprised of Ana Suárez, Cristina Viera, Elsa Guerra, Fernando González de Armas, and Jorge Petit, who will take on the challenge of managing the platform following the approval of the 2021-2025 activity report.
In his closing address, Juan Miguel Sanjuán highlighted the legacy of his predecessor and announced his first institutional measure: to promote an amendment to the statutes of Foro Canarias to name Santiago Ceballos Honorary President. This move seeks to safeguard the outgoing president's experience within the structure of an organization that is consolidating its position as one of the archipelago's leading think tanks.
