San Bartolomé de Tirajana expands and makes more flexible municipal aid for housing rentals

MASPALOMAS24H Wednesday, April 22, 2026

Alejandro Marichal: “These subsidies are designed to alleviate the burden of rent taking up a large part of the salary of many working families.”

Lucía Jiménez: “We have updated the guidelines to adjust them to the real cost of rent and broaden the income thresholds, making it easier for more families to access this aid.”

The Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has definitively approved the ordinance that regulates the bases for granting aid for the rental of habitual and permanent housing in the municipality, after the public exposure period ended without any objections.

With this approval, the Housing Department sets in motion the regulatory framework that will allow a new call for aid aimed at working people and families, reinforcing municipal support in the face of the increase in rental costs.

The new ordinance introduces significant improvements over the 2024 call for applications, aiming to broaden access and adapt the aid to the current market reality. Among the main changes, the limit for eligible rent has been raised to €1.000 per month, extendable to €1.100 for large families, compared to the previous limit of €850. Similarly, for rooms, the limit has been increased to €600, surpassing the previous cap of €550.

Regarding the financial requirements, applicants must be currently employed, and the minimum income limit previously imposed on families has been eliminated. The income threshold has also been increased to 4,5 times the IPREM (Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income), allowing more families to access this aid compared to the limited range in the previous call for applications. Furthermore, the requirement of residency in the municipality has been strengthened, establishing a minimum of five years' registration on the municipal census.

The ordinance maintains the direct rental assistance model, establishing aid of up to 30% of the rent, which can reach 40% in the case of large families, with a maximum limit of €3.000 per year per beneficiary. This system allows the aid to be adjusted to the actual situation of each applicant based on their income and family composition.

Furthermore, the new text more clearly defines the evaluation criteria, prioritizing social, economic and residency factors in the municipality, which allows applications to be ranked objectively under a competitive system.

The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized that “this aid addresses one of the main concerns of families in the municipality: access to housing.” He added that “this ordinance consolidates a useful tool that puts resources directly into the hands of those who need them most and helps alleviate the financial burden of renting.”

For her part, the Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, emphasized that “we have reviewed and improved the regulations to adapt them to the current market situation, expanding the rental limits and income thresholds so that more families can benefit.” Jiménez added that “we are taking a further step compared to the previous ordinance, with a fairer, clearer system that is more responsive to the social realities of the municipality.”

Following the approval of the ordinance, the City Council is already working on the next call for applications, which will establish the budget, deadlines, and eligible period. The application period will open at that time.
