Official presentation of the “Benjamin Football Tournament – Canaluz Cup – City of Telde 2026”

On May 30th, Canary Islands Day, the Pablo Hernández Morales Stadium (El Hornillo, Telde) will be the setting for a sporting event destined to become a benchmark for grassroots football in the Islands: the “Benjamin Football Tournament – Canaluz Cup – City of Telde 2026”, an event that will take place throughout the day and combines sport, identity and celebration on a date that is especially significant for the Canary Islands society.

In a context marked by the strong emotional connection and sense of belonging that the Day of the Canary Islands awakens, this tournament is born with the vocation to consolidate itself as a meeting space for families, clubs and fans, integrating naturally into a day where culture, coexistence and pride in our own take center stage.

The Canaluz Cup is not just a sporting competition, but a complete experience designed for players, families and the attending public, with multiple surprises and parallel activities throughout the day that will reinforce the festive character of the event.

Canaluz, exclusive promoter of the tournament

The tournament is backed by Canaluz as its exclusive sponsor, giving its name to the competition and leading an initiative that promotes grassroots sport as a tool for social development and community connection.

The organizers, assigned to one of the most emblematic and legendary clubs in the football competition on the island of Gran Canaria, Unión Deportiva Telde, emphasize that “the Canaluz Cup was born with the hope of creating something more than a tournament: we want to build an annual event that represents the values of grassroots football and that, in addition, connects with the Canarian identity on such a special day.”

Institutional and Canarian football support

The official presentation of the tournament took place this morning, Thursday the 23rd, at the Pablo Hernández Stadium itself, with the presence of the secretary of UD Telde, Antonio Monzón and Leandro Asís, director of UD Telde; the general secretary of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, Daniel Pita and the director of Communication and Marketing of Canaluz, Héctor Pérez.

The UD Telde director praised the initiative as "a magnificent opportunity to showcase the city as a benchmark for grassroots sport and to offer our families a quality event on such a special date."

From a sporting perspective, the secretary of UD Telde emphasized that "for the boys and girls, being able to compete in a tournament of this level in their city and on such a special day is an experience they will always remember."

Likewise, the secretary of the Las Palmas Inter-Island Football Federation pointed out that “initiatives such as the Canaluz Cup strengthen grassroots football in the Canary Islands and promote fundamental values such as camaraderie, respect and coexistence.”

Finally, the Director of Communication and Marketing at Canaluz pointed out that “Canary Islands Day is one of those moments when we all feel something special for who we are and what we share. At Canaluz, we wanted to be there, but not just in any way: by creating something that brings real value to people. The Canaluz Cup was born with that idea: to unite grassroots sport, families, and identity in a single day. We chose football because it's a universal language among children and because we believe that these kinds of experiences are the ones that leave a lasting impression. We are proud to lend our name to a tournament that aspires to grow and become a fixture on the Canary Islands' sporting calendar.”

A tournament with a competitive format and outstanding participation

The competition will feature 10 teams, divided into two groups during the initial phase, where each team will play four matches.

Among the participating teams are: UD Las Palmas, UD Telde (with several teams), Arucas B, U. Sur Yaiza, Unión Viera, Tamaraceite, La Oliva, Puerto del Carmen and Las Longueras, forming a high-level sporting lineup within the Benjamin category.

The group stage will take place between 10:00 and 14:00, with matches lasting 24 minutes, divided into two 12-minute halves. After this stage, the teams will be divided into two brackets:

  • Gold Phase, which the top three teams from each group will enter, fighting for the main title.
  • Silver Phase, intended for the teams classified in fourth and fifth position, thus guaranteeing competitive continuity for all participants.

The qualifiers will be played in a playoff and semi-final format, culminating with the Gold and Silver finals starting at 17:51 p.m.

A day to enjoy with the family

In addition to the sporting aspect, the organizers have prepared a day full of activities and surprises for the attendees, reinforcing the festive atmosphere of the event and making it an ideal plan for celebrating Canary Islands Day with the family. The Canaluz Cup is thus presented as an event that combines sport, excitement, and local identity, with the aim of establishing itself as a must-attend event on the Canary Islands' youth football calendar. The event can be followed on the social media channels of Canaluz and UD Telde.
