The map of international air connectivity for the 2026 summer season highlights a scenario of uneven growth among the main tourist hubs of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. According to official data updated as of April 30, Gran Canaria projects an upward trajectory with a 7,63% increase in its international seat capacity for the period between May and July. This trend consolidates in the second half of the year, from August to October, where the year-on-year change reaches 11,93%, reflecting an aggressive commitment from airlines to the Canary Islands destination.

In the regional comparative analysis, Tenerife shows a more moderate growth in its volume of international seats. The island registered a 1,09% increase in the May-July quarter compared to the previous year. For the August-October period, Tenerife's air capacity adjusted with a year-on-year increase of 3,70%, maintaining operational stability that contrasts with the greater dynamism of its eastern neighbor.

The Mediterranean market, represented by Mallorca and the Turkish region of Antalya, continues to operate with seat volumes that significantly exceed those of the Canary Islands. International air capacity charts underscore the massive scale of these competitors during the peak summer months, periods when Antalya and Mallorca concentrate the bulk of passenger transport capacity on the continent.

The economic intelligence source used by the Gran Canaria Tourist Board highlights that these figures for projected seats are the key indicator for anticipating demand behavior in the short and medium term. While the Canary Islands destinations are achieving remarkable percentage growth, especially Gran Canaria with its double-digit figures for the end of summer, the Mediterranean giants maintain their dominance in absolute volume of international connections.
