The Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted its indictment to the Court of Instruction No. 3 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana against a resident of southern Gran Canaria for an attempted robbery in the municipality of Mogán. The incident occurred around midday on April 17, 2020, during the height of the lockdown.
According to the prosecution, the accused acted with the clear intention of obtaining an illicit financial gain at the expense of others' property. To gain entry to the property, a house located in the Puerto de Mogán Urbanization, the defendant used a chair to reach the windowsill of a window situated one and a half meters above the ground. Once inside the property, owned by a woman named Tania, the individual began to gather and accumulate various objects with the intention of stealing them.
However, the operation was interrupted when Civil Guard officers surprised the accused inside the home before he could complete the robbery. As a result of the break-in, the house was damaged, although the owner has waived her right to pursue legal action after receiving compensation from her insurance company.
The Las Palmas Provincial Prosecutor's Office classifies these acts as attempted burglary of an inhabited dwelling. The accused already had a prior criminal record, not considered for the purposes of recidivism, for a previous fraud offense in Puerto del Rosario. Given the seriousness of the intrusion, the Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting that the case proceed to trial before the Criminal Court and is seeking a two-year prison sentence for the accused, in addition to disqualification from holding public office for the duration of the sentence and payment of court costs.
