La International Sea Fair Fimar will celebrate its 15th edition at the Sanapú dock in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from May 22nd to 24th, serving as a key platform for promoting career opportunities in the blue economy and the marine, maritime, and port sectors. The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Councillor for Maritime Affairs, Pedro Quevedo; the President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada; the General Director of Infecar, the Gran Canaria Trade Fair, Natalia Santana; and Daura Vega, Director of Degree Promotion at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), presented this new edition of Fimar on the morning of May 12th at the Tourist Information Point in the city's cruise ship dock, emphasizing the event's importance as a driver of economic development.
The International Sea Fair will feature around fifty companies represented at Sanapú, each with their own stand, in addition to those of public, academic, and educational institutions. The fair is an event promoted by the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, and organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, and the Department of Maritime Affairs of the capital city of Gran Canaria.
Fifteen years of journey
The Councillor for the Maritime District of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pedro Quevedo, emphasized at the presentation that “fifteen years is no small feat,” highlighting the event's historical significance. He also expressed his gratitude to “the Port Authority and the Island Council, along with Infecar, for the work that has been carried out here. He also thanked the university, because its outreach efforts are important, especially in these times.”
Quevedo stated that “it is essential for the city to hold these types of events. This is the kind of promotion we are interested in. In this case, it expresses our connection to the sea, especially in a context where our relationship with the Port Authority is fundamental to our urban development.”
Furthermore, he described dedicating the main theme of Fimar 2026 to the Outermost Regions (ORs) as "a complete success," because "the term outermost region is important, it recognizes the difficulties that the uniqueness of our territory presents."
Professional future in the Port
Earlier, the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, had expressed her satisfaction at "hosting this fair again and collaborating closely with Infecar and the city, and all the institutions and companies that participate."
Calzada emphasized that “this is who we are, an outermost region: this is what characterizes us, what differentiates us in the European Union: the way in which we are connected to the sea and how we develop this blue economy, in which we are pioneers in many things. And we want to continue being so.”
Furthermore, he announced that this year the Port Authority's stand "will be dedicated to something we believe is extremely important: professions linked to the port environment.
