A man died on Tuesday after being rescued from the sea in cardiac arrest off San Agustín beach, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The incident mobilized numerous emergency resources, including a medical helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC).
The incident occurred at approximately 14:10 p.m. on May 19, 2026, when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert from the lifeguards of the Beach Rescue Service reporting that they had pulled an unconscious person from the water and were performing resuscitation maneuvers.
A fully equipped ambulance and a medical helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, medical personnel found the patient was still in cardiac arrest and continued advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for several minutes. Despite their efforts, the patient could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
The National Police took custody of the body until the arrival of the judicial authorities and carried out the corresponding procedures. The Local Police collaborated with the other emergency services, while members of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service ensured the safe landing and takeoff of the medical helicopter on the beach.
