San Fernando de Maspalomas kicks off its patron saint festivities with a wide-ranging program of religious, cultural, musical, and traditional activities under the theme "Roots and Traditions." The events begin this Thursday, May 21st, and these are the activities planned for this first weekend of celebration.
THURSDAY MAY 21
The opening address for the festivities will take place at 20:30 p.m., delivered by Paula Rodríguez Artíles, at the San Fernando Cultural Center. The event will also feature performances by Umiaya and the Sol y Arena Band.
FRIDAY MAY 22
The day will begin at 17:00 pm with children's entertainment activities, bouncy castles and workshops in the Plaza de San Fernando.
At 21:00 PM, "Masparranda," a Canarian celebration, will take place, featuring local products and musical performances by groups from the municipality: Las Dunas del Sur, Parranda El Cañizo, Grupo Invitado Bejeque, and the Agrupación Folclórica La Descamisá. It will be held in the Plaza del Poblado de San Fernando.
The night will continue with the Youth Night in Plaza de San Fernando starting at 23:00 p.m. with performances by DJ Allen, Yumi, Kalobo and DJ Sammyto.
SATURDAY MAY 23
The traditional San Fernando Pilgrimage Offering will begin at 18:30 p.m., departing from Avenida de Tunte (between the Maspalomas Municipal Stadium and the Dunas School) and proceeding along the usual streets to the Church of San Fernando, where the offering in honor of the patron saint will be made.
After the pilgrimage, at 21:30 p.m., the popular festival will begin in the Plaza de San Fernando with performances by Star Music, 'Yo Marc' —a tribute to Marc Anthony by Héctor Artíles—, Ritmo Bakano and DJ Jonay.
SUNDAY MAY 24
At 10:00 a.m., an exhibition of vintage vehicles, tuned cars, motorcycles, and classic cars will be held in the parking lot of the Municipal Offices. Following this, at 11:00 a.m., a foam party will take place in San Fernando Square.
In the afternoon, at 20:30 p.m., the Gala for the Election of the Children's and Youth Queen will be held in the Plaza de San Fernando, presented by Manolo Santana and with performances by Ana García and Rocío Ruano.
