Lucía Jiménez: “The new call for applications incorporates clearer criteria, broadens the scope of the aid, and improves the City Council's ability to respond to current rental prices.”
Alejandro Marichal: “These subsidies are designed to alleviate the burden of rent taking up a large part of the salary of many working families in the municipality.”
The Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will open the application period tomorrow, Thursday, May 21, for the 2025 call for applications for rental assistance for primary and permanent residences, with a total budget of €200.000. The application period will remain open until June 10, inclusive.
The call will allow subsidies for rental expenses corresponding to the period between January 1 and December 31, 2025, within a municipal support line intended to facilitate the maintenance of the main residence.
The opening of this call comes after the final approval of the new municipal ordinance promoted by the Housing Department, which updates the regulatory bases of the aid to adapt them to the current situation of the rental market and expand its scope among working families in the municipality.
Among the main improvements introduced compared to previous calls for applications is the increase in the limit for eligible rent, which rises from 850 to 1.000 euros per month, extendable to 1.100 euros for large families. In the case of room rentals, the limit increases to 600 euros.

The new regulations also raise the income threshold to 4,5 times the IPREM (Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income) and stipulate that none of the household members may own another property, except in the exceptional circumstances outlined in the regulations. Furthermore, they eliminate previous restrictions related to minimum income, allowing more families to access these municipal subsidies.
The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized that “this aid is designed to alleviate the burden of rent consuming a large portion of the income of many working families in the municipality.” Marichal also noted that “we are consolidating a useful municipal tool, adapted to the current situation, which puts resources directly into the hands of those who need them most and helps to ease the financial pressure many families are experiencing.”
For her part, the Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, explained that “we have updated the guidelines to reflect the actual cost of rent and make it easier for more families to access this assistance.” Jiménez added that “the new call for applications includes clearer criteria, broadens the scope of the aid, and improves the City Council’s ability to respond to the current housing situation in the municipality.”
These grants will be available to adults registered in San Bartolomé de Tirajana for a minimum of five years, who have a valid rental contract for a house or room and who reside habitually in the subsidized property.
Applicants must also be up-to-date with their tax and social security obligations, and provide proof of payment of the monthly rent for the eligible period. The subsidies may cover up to 30% of the rent paid, and up to 40% for large families, with a maximum of €3.000 per year per beneficiary.
The grants will be awarded through a competitive process, with special consideration given to social and family circumstances such as large families, single-parent families, people with disabilities or dependency, people over 65 without a pension, and victims of gender violence.
Applications may be submitted in person at the Housing Department, located on the 4th floor of the Yumbo Shopping Center, or electronically through the municipal website. All information regarding the application process, requirements, documentation, and application forms will be available on the website and on the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall website, www.maspalomas.com
