A single-vehicle accident on Saturday in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana mobilized numerous emergency resources after a car overturned on Islas Azores Street. The driver, a 38-year-old man, had to be rescued from the vehicle and was transported in serious condition to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
The accident occurred at 19:33 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, when the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert informing that a person required medical assistance after the vehicle he was traveling in went off the road and subsequently overturned.
A fully equipped ambulance and a fully equipped helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched to the scene, along with firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service, local police, the Civil Guard, and personnel from the Gran Canaria Island Council's Road Maintenance Service. Firefighters secured the wrecked vehicle and freed the occupant from inside.
Emergency medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the injured person, who presented with severe multiple injuries at the time of initial assistance. After being stabilized at the scene of the accident, he was transported by ambulance to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria. During the transfer, the ambulance was escorted by officers from the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
