Institutional stability in southern Gran Canaria is experiencing a period of extreme turbulence. A forceful ruling from the Directorate General of the Regional and Local Legal Framework, under the Ministry of Territorial Policy of the Spanish Government, has unleashed a veritable political earthquake in the southern region by rejecting the strategy of the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana and the five councilors who govern with him after their expulsion from Nueva Canarias (NC). In the case of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, AV-PP can request the same outcome because the group of councilors led by Samuel Herníquez faces the same situation.

The central government's report leaves the rebel councilors of the nationalist party in an extremely compromised position, clearly confirming that basic local legislation cannot be interpreted by regional bodies to circumvent the status of defectors.

The jurisdictional dispute arose when the councilor decided to rely on a report from the Deputy Ministry of Public Administration of the Canary Islands Government, a document that contradicted the opinion of the municipal secretary and recent court rulings. The Ministry of Territorial Policy clarifies in its resolution that the regulations governing the organization of municipalities are of a basic national nature, requiring their uniform application throughout the country. The national leadership of NC has welcomed this ruling, demanding the immediate restoration of institutional legality and the annulment of the political advantages granted to the expelled representatives.

The offensive launched by the councilors loyal to the New Canaries party—Leví Ramos Sánchez, Yaiza Pérez Álvarez, and Ofelia Alvarado Santana—has immediately moved to the official records. The three councilors have filed a formal appeal to compel the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana to unequivocally comply with the state ruling. The opposition group laments that the administrative paralysis had to be resolved by a ministry in Madrid, revealing a deliberate maneuver to evade the oversight of the public official responsible for ensuring the legality of the southern council's agreements.

Representatives of the nationalist left have filed a complaint with the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, seeking to enforce strict compliance with local government regulations. The complaint aims to have the regional government body take precautionary measures regarding irregularities detected in the southeastern town council, potentially opening the door to a series of challenges to budgets and governing board resolutions approved with the votes of councilors who declared themselves unaffiliated, thus jeopardizing public tenders in the region.

The rift within the nationalist movement has deepened with the outright rejection by Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) of participating in the round of talks convened by Municipalistas Primero Canarias in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The party's spokesperson, Luis Campos, described as profoundly cynical the move led by Teodoro Sosa's faction to forge a supposed unity of political action in Madrid. The party believes this forum is designed solely to play into the hands of Coalición Canaria and the regional president, Fernando Clavijo, serving as a pretext to bolster the archipelago's conservative forces.

The voluntary exclusion of NC-BC weakens the representativeness of the municipal summit, which has scheduled meetings with local forces on the island such as Asava, Ando Sataute, Avesan, La Fortaleza, and Más por Telde. The Canarianist spokesperson denounced that the organizers of the meeting are precisely those who have undermined the historical space of the progressive left through direct confrontation and political disloyalty. The party insists on distancing itself from a project they link to uncontrolled development and real estate speculation on the southern tourist coast, reaffirming its commitment to an alternative model based on the ecological limits of the territory and the strengthening of essential public services.
