Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez presided this Thursday over the official swearing-in of 18 local police officers and 11 firefighters as career civil servants.
The security and emergency department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has 29 new career civil servants since this Thursday, specifically 18 Local Police officers and 11 firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS), who signed the assumption of their permanent positions.
These 29 new trainee security and emergency officers officially took up their posts in a ceremony presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez. The ceremony, held at the Pancho Guerra Cultural Center and attended by numerous family members and friends of the officers, also included speeches by the Councilor for the Presidency and Human Resources, Elena Álamo Vega; the Councilor for Security and Emergency Services, José Carlos Álamo; the City Council's General Secretary, Mateo Pérez Ojeda; and the heads of the Local Police and the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS), Isidro Armas Díaz and José Felipe Santana Rodríguez, respectively.
During the swearing-in ceremony, a video was shown featuring images of the new officers' training process, highlighting their effort, preparation, and commitment during their probationary period prior to their official and permanent integration into public service. Among the memorable moments of the event was the mayor's presentation of the Maspalomas Fire Department insignia to young firefighter Katia Santana Mejías, an insignia that had previously belonged to and been worn by her own father.

With the appointment of these 29 new career civil servants, the Department of Human Resources successfully concludes two highly complex selection processes aimed at strengthening the municipality's security and emergency services, a matter that Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez set as one of his government's management priorities "to guarantee the prevention and protection of the well-being of the municipality's residents and its visitors."
The mayor closed the ceremony appointing the new municipal security and emergency officials by congratulating both the new officers and “all the members of the municipal administration who participated throughout the entire process culminating in this appointment.” Marco Aurelio Pérez stated that “this is just one step in the professional careers of people with an enormous vocation for public service.” When one chooses to be a local police officer or firefighter, the mayor said, “one is not only choosing a risky profession, but also one of service on the streets, directly with the citizens, in the moments and times when it is most needed.”
