The Castle hosts the III Maspalomas-Gran Canaria U-14 International Women's Basketball Tournament

The tournament, which will feature 8 teams from Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, is supported by the Department of Sports, the Island Sports Institute of the Cabildo, the Canary Islands Basketball Federation and a dozen sponsoring companies.

 

The Vicente del Bosque Sports City Pavilion in Castillo del Romeral will host the III Maspalomas-Gran Canaria U-14 International Women's Basketball Tournament next week, from Thursday the 11th to Sunday the 14th. The tournament is organized by the Castillo Basketball Club with the collaboration of the Sports Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the Island Sports Institute of the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Canary Islands Basketball Federation, and a dozen sponsoring companies.

 

This edition will feature a total of 8 teams, specifically Drillo Basketball (Sweden), Torpan Pojat (Finland), Escola Francisco Franco (Madeira-Portugal), CB Amuley (Fuerteventura), CB Nuryana (Tenerife), the Gran Canaria Pre-Infant Selection, and the teams also representing this island, CB Brains Fenix, from Telde, and the local CB Castillo.

This year's sporting event offers as its main new features motivational conferences and meetings with prominent figures in Spanish women's basketball, excursions and guided tours, an All Star game and a tournament closing party for participants at Holiday World.

 

The tournament and its promotional poster were unveiled this Wednesday on the same court where the matches will be held, with speeches by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez; the Councilor for Sports, Ramón Suárez; the Honorary Consuls of Portugal and Sweden, Joaquín Juliá Quevedo and Dunia Cubas Díaz, respectively; and representatives of the Poderosas Foundation, Mari Carmen González, and CB Brains Fenix, Alejandro Gutiérrez, who congratulated the organizers, highlighting the importance of this tournament in raising the profile of women's basketball and serving as a space for recognition and coexistence for young athletes from different countries, cultures, and religions.

 

The presentation of the participating teams will take place on Wednesday, and the group stage matches will be held on Thursday the 11th and Friday the 12th, with morning and afternoon sessions. The semi-finals and the All-Star game will be held on Saturday the 13th, and the grand final and awards ceremony will be on Sunday.
