Gender violence is not an exclusive problem for women residents of Maspalomas, but also affects tourists who visit the southern area of Gran Canaria. According to a study by the Association for the Prevention, Reintegration and Care of Victims of Gender Violence (APREM), 20% of women who suffer gender violence are tourists.

According to the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary, in 2022, to which Maspalomas24H has had access, 147.197 complaints of gender violence were registered in Spain. Of these, 4.438 were in the Canary Islands. In Gran Canaria in 2022, 2.822 complaints of gender violence were registered in Gran Canaria. Of these, 441 were in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

Gender violence is a serious problem that affects all women, regardless of their age, nationality or social status. In Maspalomas, like anywhere else in the world, women are victims of physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence.

The majority of victims of gender violence are adult women. However, there are also girls and adolescents who suffer violence from their partners or ex-partners. The majority of perpetrators of gender violence are adult men. In many cases, they are the partners or ex-partners of the victims.
