The thirteen localities of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) register decreasing figures in the number of unemployed

The latest survey of the active population of the Canary Islands reveals how tourism municipalities are responsible for maintaining employment stability and managing to reduce, as a whole, the unemployment rate.

In this way, the thirteen localities of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) have registered a significant reduction in unemployment, which demonstrates the importance of the tourism sector in the Canary Islands economic context.

Thus, according to comparative data for 2023 and 2024, total unemployment has decreased by 9,2% in the tourism sector in these territories, going from 23.054 unemployed in 2023 to 20.924 in 2024.

Tourism, as a whole, has been a fundamental pillar for this notable improvement in employment. The president of the AMTC and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, highlights that the results are a clear reflection of the importance of tourism for our islands. “The notable reduction in unemployment is the result of the joint effort and dedication of all the sectors involved. “We will continue to work tirelessly to promote sustainable economic growth that benefits all our citizens,” he expressed.
