The president of the Ingeniense cultural association, David Castellano, collected the distinction from the hands of the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, at the celebration at the Pérez Galdós Theater

The Ingenio Choirs and Dances Cultural Association already has its Canary Islands Gold Medal. It was collected by its president, David Castellano, during the official Canary Islands Day event of the Government of the Canary Islands held this May 30 at the Pérez Galdós Theater in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Ingeniense association receives this distinction in 2024, celebrating 75 years of disseminating and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Canary Islands. It was supported on this special day by a broad representation of the local corporation, headed by the mayor, Vanesa Martín.

The Government of the Canary Islands presented thirteen Canary Islands Gold Medals and three Canary Islands awards with which it recognizes people or entities for their work to benefit the Canary Islands society from solidarity, science, culture and sport. The president, Fernando Clavijo, highlighted during the ceremony that, in his opinion, the awarded people and groups are “an example of perseverance, talent, commitment and struggle; hallmarks of the Canarian people” and added that they represent the success of the “Canarian way of doing things: together, with dialogue and with respect for differing opinions.” “Celebrating who we are pays tribute to 16 women and men who, individually or collectively, are the example to which we should aspire. Perseverance, talent, solidarity, commitment, courage, work, fight are words that distinguish and endorse the Canary Islands medals and awards that we award this year,” he highlighted moments before the awards ceremony.

On this Friday morning, after the awards ceremony, Vanesa Martín shared her impressions and “the pride of having been a participant in this event that recognizes 75 years of experience, altruistic work but also a people", given the volume of people who have been part of this group "that represents us," he added.

For his part, David Castellano, highlighted the solemnity and emotionality of the event "therefore a memorable event." But in his statements for Este Canal TV this Friday, the president of Coros y Danzas de Ingenio has expressed that “this award is for the effort and hard work of Coros y Danzas de Ingenio with a marked ethnographic, folkloric and social character, but in the that there is room for many hearts, present and absent, and an entire town that has known how to pamper and take care of its traditions.”

The Canary Islands Awards have been awarded to Eduardo Aznar Vallejo, in the Historical Heritage category; Basilio Valladares, in Innovation and Research; and Gonzalo González, in Fine Arts. The Gold Medals have been received by the Valle del Golfo Civil Protection Association, René de Lamar del Risco, Antonia Varela Pérez, Asomasamen, Valeria Castro Rodríguez, Los Diabletes de Teguise, Goya Alonso Jiménez, Cultural Association Coros y Danzas de Ingenio, María Isabel Rodríguez Vivero, Association of Volunteer Firefighters of La Gomera, Amid Achí, Emerge and the court specialized in Violence against Children and Adolescents.
