The Mogán City Council, responding to public demand, is working to officially open dog-friendly beaches. To this end, the Beaches Department, headed by Willy García, is inviting residents and interested parties to a meeting next Monday, September 1st, at 19:30 p.m., at El Perchel Beach.
Currently, pet access to the municipality's beaches is prohibited, a situation the City Council intends to change in the short term. "We listen to the requests of residents, as well as many beach users, who want to enjoy them with their pets," says García, adding that the City Council is already studying ordinances from other Canary Islands municipalities where dogs are allowed on beaches as a reference.
"We are evaluating different options that allow for a good coexistence between users with and without pets," he explains, referring to the fact that some beaches could have a space exclusively for dogs, while others could allow free movement. To achieve this, the councilor believes it is necessary to listen to the opinions and demands of residents. "It's not just about creating spaces, but also about understanding what is truly necessary for our pets' experience on the beach to be a good one," he asserts.
